What I learned from a pot of crabs

Back in the day when I was a just a kid, my mom used to bring me to Chinatown in NYC to do her monthly fish and veggie shopping.

Those trips in to the city were always great since there was so much to see as a curious soul.

All the markets she would drag me to in a couple blocks were filled with many kinds of fish and seafood that I knew nothing about.

Tuna in a can was all knew about fish….

But what always caught my eye and attention were the barrels of crabs. My mom would always make sure I didn’t get too close, “don’t touch them!”, she would bark.

It was coolest thing to watch as they all would battle to climb out the top, grabbing, pulling and inching their way in hopes to break away from the crowd. Once and awhile a lucky crab would scrap their way out, fall to the ground and I’d watch it scramble on the sidewalk, lost but free!

Looking back and learning about life, we are ALL kind of like those crabs in a barrel.

No matter whether you are at the top or bottom of the pile, we are looking for a better way to escape the barrel of life that is keeping us trapped in some way.

There are gonna be people in your life that are pulling you down, not always purposely, but because that’s the only way they know since it’s been done to them.

Shooting down your dreams and tugging at your heart…

Just when you think you’ve found a way out, you are back at the bottom of barrel.

  • “You can’t do that.”
  • “What are you doing that for?”
  • “Why are you trying to be different?”

Stay away from the crabs in YOUR life.

If you have a dream, fight for it everyday.

It’s not gonna be easy but it is always worth it.

Be different and…CHAMP UP!
