Speaking The Champ Up Message
….the message is universal. Chris Romulo’s philosophy on fighting back is changing the lives
of people who WANT more in life.
Helping individuals understand that we CAN take decisive control over our lives by empowering
our own minds, getting in the “fight” of life and starting a champions uprising.
How does Chris manage to reach individuals from as close as the members of his Rockaway Beach
community to folks in far off lands seeking his guidance? Vulnerability.
You might be wondering how an ex-fighter and champion can be vulnerable. But the truth is,
like so many kids today, Chris also struggled with being bullied, low grades, and a broken home
as a child. As an adult he has experienced the highs of triumph and the setback of defeat: both
losing and winning in the ring, building a gym from nothing and having it destroyed with in 24 hours
from Hurricane Sandy’s wrath. He knows what it’s like to fall face down in “the canvas”, without
a home or way to make a life for his family yet still bounce back bigger than ever.
With a steadfast mindset, though, Chris rose up against the challenges life put in front of him.
But Chris doesn’t hide what he’s been through. And by showing how vulnerable he was—and more importantly
how he overcame that vulnerability—individuals from all walks of life can relate to him immediately.
Chris is a motivating and engaging speaker tailoring his message to the audience’s needs. He uses
slideshows and highlight videos and even some acting. He might even put on the boxing gloves.
You see, Chris has spent the last 20 years teaching his students how to fight. Not only in the ring,
but in life.
He teaches individuals how to fight for their dreams and goals. He teaches them how to dig deep,
find their “why” and fight for it. But more importantly, he teaches them how to fight for what they
believe in and work toward greatness!
by Chris Romulo & John Wolcott
Chris Romulo grew up in a broken home. His mother Lucita, a Filipino immigrant, wanted Chris to go to college and live the American Dream. His father Carlito, also a Filipino immigrant, detached himself from the family and turned to gambling. After a series of unfortunate events in grammar school, Chris took to the streets of Queens, New York, where at twenty years old a near-death street fight redirected his life and purpose. Chris then set off on a twenty-year journey through the study of Muay Thai, which took him from New York City to Bangkok, Thailand and back again. As a fighter, Chris went on to become the first professional North American Super-Middleweight Muay Thai Champion in 2010. But after retiring, Chris was forced to make one more comeback when Hurricane Sandy destroyed his home and gym in 2012.
Chris Romulo’s personal journey captivates the reader as you watch him struggle as a young man on the streets to become a successful and respected fighter with a steadfast mindset to guide his choices. His is a story of uprising against life’s greatest challenges, but also a realistic, moving tale of his journey through fatherhood. On one hand, trying so hard to connect with his own father, and on the other, trying to be the father he never had.
For two decades Chris Romulo kept these stories buried inside. Now he opens up like never before. A retired fighter and Muay Thai champion, Chris Romulo runs CROM Physical Culture in Rockaway Beach, NY where he lives with his wife, Sarah, and two sons, Jube and Giovanni.
